Daryl Burgess is best known for penning the Colin James number one “Stay” and “Just came back” (awarded the Canadian Juno for the 1990s single of the year, Billboard top 10). Burgess cuts also includes “This Heartache Never Sleeps”, a number 14 hit for Mark Chesnutt, singles by Patty Loveless “Where I’m bound, T. Graham Brown “Never in 1 Million Tears”, Alicia Elliott “I’m digging it”, Jamie O’Neal “Sanctuary”, Aaron Pritchett “Big Wheel”, “The Bride: and “New Frontier” and Trick Pony “Big Wheel” awarded country song of the year 2006.
Daryl was raised on a diverse sound-scape. He listened to the hip Swing of the 40's, the music of his parent's parent's generation, and the Jazz, the Big Bands, and of course the plaintive stylings of Mr. Hank Williams. Then on to the world of pop music, The Police, and rock music, and Gospel, from Copperhead Road to Gossip in the Grain.
He has absorbed, worshiped, ingested, ruminated upon, taken apart, recombined it all and remade as something new, something unique, as only an artist can.
As a working musician he has gravitated towards the groove that holds the back beat, keeps it in the pocket and on time. He is a melody maker, which may seem incongruous for a drummer, but it works. He is a song-writer with well over a thousand songs under his belt, and currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee (since 1995), and Vancouver, where he was born in the shadow of Blue Mountain in beautiful British Columbia, Canada.
Burgess has partnered with many major publishers over the years, including EMI Music Publishing, BMG Music Publishing, Stage Three Publishing, Mosaic Music, Springfish Music as well as his own companies Burg-Isle Music Decibella Music and More db songs.
A multi-instrumentalist, Daryl also plays piano, guitar, and bass and has collaborated and played all genres as a session drummer and live drummer with some of the hottest recording artists and songwriters in pop, country, R&B and blues including: Will Jennings, Alanis Morissette, Chris Stapleton, Colin James, Craig Wiseman, Joanna Cotten, The Rovers, John Denver, Kenny Rogers, Jim Lauderdale, Tim Krekel, Mark Irwin, Paul Janz, Phil Everly, Jaida Dreyer, Liz Hengber, Irma Thomas, Bobby Terry, Anthony Smith, Gretchen Wilson, Van Zant, Patricia Conroy, Mark Selby, John Micheal Montgo, Bo Bice, Patti Loveless, Brenda Lee, John Denver, Long John Baldry, Bo Diddly,.
